The Local Authorities Superannuation Fund (LASF) bade farewell to one of its most
dedicated employees who retired after diligently serving the Fund for an impressive 21 years.
Head of Procurement and Supplies Department, Wilson Bretherton has left an indelible mark
particularly with the establishment and growth of the Procurement and Supplies Department
of the Fund which has consistently been rated highly by the Zambia Public Procurement
Authority (ZPPA).
During the retirement send off, Managing Director George Chileshe said Mr Bretherton was
an integral component of the management team at LASF and his valuable contribution would
be missed.
Mr Chileshe applauded Mr Bretherton’s unwavering commitment to excellence and tireless
work ethics.
“Mr Bretherton is credited with setting up the Procurement and Supplies Department, in 2004
and he was lead in creating the processes for the Department. Because of this, the inspection
audit from ZPPA is currently at 83 percent, an indication of how well he did in setting up the
department”, he said.
Mr Chileshe also applauded Mr Bretherton’s work attitude in as far as integrity is concerned
and urged the employees who were gathered to bid farewell to emulate the high level of
integrity.
The call for integrity should go to all of us as an institution. It is important to avoid
speculation, read and master your profession very well and then apply yourselves
appropriately”, he said.
In his farewell message, Mr Bretherton said it was an honour to have served LASF for over
two decades. He said that he was leaving with a sense of fulfilment knowing that the
Procurement team was stronger than ever.
He expressed a mix of emotions as he was happy to retire while at the same time was sad that
he was separating from his work family.
“I am happy that I have worked to the best of my ability and I have upheld my call to
integrity. I urge all of you to embrace integrity as that is the only sure way you will retire
with a clean record. Procurement is an interesting field as long as one follows the laid down
procedure and I am happy that I was able to offer the right counsel to management and the
entire workforce”, he said.
Procurement Officer, Mutinta Milambo expressed sadness at the departure of her supervisor
but was quick to wish him well as he undertook a new phase in his life away from the hustle
and bustle of the office.
